SOSORT
SOSORT is a non-profit organization whose mission is to advance the most appropriate care for individuals with scoliosis and spine structural changes with an emphasis on non-operative management. The organization consists of patients, researchers, and clinicians such as physicians, surgeons, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, orthotists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, exercise scientists, and rehabilitation professionals.
The first formal meeting of SOSORT was held in Poznan, Poland in April 2006. However, the seeds for this new organization were planted two years prior when a group of almost 100 clinicians gathered in Barcelona, Spain to discuss approaches and standards for non-operative care for scoliosis patients. The number and enthusiasm of the participants demonstrated that an organization dedicated to non-operative care was needed.
The official SOSORT journal, Scoliosis and Spinal Disorders was published between 2006 and 2019. The journal was home to a number of consensus papers and several updates to SOSORT guidelines to help clinicians practice high quality evidence-based care.
Membership is now at over 200 individuals and growing. SOSORT is a diverse and international society with a common vision to create a world where multidisciplinary collaboration among individuals living with scoliosis and spine structural changes, their families, healthcare professionals and scientists exist to ensure optimal outcomes.
