Association of Spine Surgeons of India (ASSI) was Started on 18th December 1985, with an aim to bring all the spine surgeons of the country together under one umbrella. It was envisaged that we would have national, regional, and local meetings, symposia, CMEs, workshops, and conferences and promote uniform scientific spine care, both surgical and non-surgical. At present the association has around 2000 members in it.

With the Motto “if we are doing it, let us do it better”, association promotes any spine related scientific activity, anywhere in India and has regional chapters to have wider coverage and representation.

We have been implementing two-year fellowship programs in affiliated centers across India and conducts outreach programs across the country in tier 2/3 cities, has a capacity development program, textbook, and monograms as part of its academic armamentarium. The society has been a strong propagator of research and has its research grant awards, established a Spine Registry and a mobile application App based case discussion forum. “Indian Spine Journal (ISJ)” is indexed now and soon will get indexing in the PubMed as well.

We plans to come out with http://assi.elearnspine.org/, world’s largest online information portal, which will have two versions – one for spine experts and the other for general public, with a aim to develop a web-based teaching and be a educational resource. It will up-skill and educate those responsible for patient management and ultimately lead to improvements in the care and management of Spinal ailments around the world.

We have also initiated the ASSI theatre book in Spine Surgery, a first of its kind in the world which will be a guide for all Surgeons, Fellows, theatre Personnel & industry to get inputs as per their requirements.

The ASSI Scoliosis app first kind of online app in India, called “spinescolicheck.com” is going to be functional soon to screen the scoliosis patients.
